Historical Green Black Atomic Glass — Trinitite 0.81 g
Have you heard of Trinitite? Also known as "atomic glass" or "nuclear glass," this extraordinary material was created during the historic Trinity nuclear test in 1945. The intense heat from the first atomic bomb detonation transformed the desert floor into this rare and fascinating glass.
Formation of Trinitite: A Glimpse into History
During the explosion, the blast scooped up sand and debris from the New Mexico desert, ejecting them high into the atmosphere. As this material fused and cooled, it rained back down to Earth, forming Trinitite. Upon magnification, most pieces exhibit a bubbly or frothy appearance, adding to their unique charm.
The Different Types of Trinitite
Trinitite comes in various forms, with green Trinitite being the most common. However, black and red Trinitite also exist, with black and red variants containing iron from the bomb tower structure. Red Trinitite gets its distinctive hue from copper, likely introduced by communication cables surrounding the test site.
The Science Behind the Trinity Test
The Trinity test was groundbreaking, aimed at verifying the implosion design and studying the behavior of the fireball and the energy release. This test forever changed the world’s understanding of atomic weaponry, introducing new scientific techniques and insights.
Authentic Trinitite: A Certified Collectible
All of our Trinitite has been tested for authenticity and is compliant with U.S. Federal regulations, including those of the NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission). Orders are shipped in accordance with Section 13 from part 40 of the NRC rules and Postal Service regulations specified in 49 CFR 173.421 for low-level radioactive materials.
