Trinitite Glass From the First Trinity Bomb Test Red Green Black
This is an unusual authentic red, green, and black trinitite with a few metallic flakes. It is rare to find all these characteristics in one specimen.
Trinitite, or “atomic glass,” was a unique material formed during the Trinity nuclear test in 1945. This fused glass resulted from the intense heat generated by the detonation of the first atomic bomb. Its green, red, black color and distinctive appearance makes it look different from any other glass. This atomic glass would make a fascinating addition to any geological collection.
Trinity Bomb Implosion Design:
Scientists aimed to verify the novel implosion design, which involved surrounding a fissile “core” with two different high explosives. Alternating faster- and slower-burning explosives created a compressive wave upon simultaneous detonation.
Energy Release and Symmetry:
Researchers sought to determine the symmetry of the implosion and the amount of energy released.
Additional measurements helped estimate damage and recorded fireball behavior.
Unprecedented Techniques:
Trinity introduced techniques and experiments never done before due to the pursuit of atomic weaponry. Scientists explored uncharted territory, leading to groundbreaking insights. The world was never the same after this first atomic test.
Size of the trinitite: 15mm L X 9mm W X 6mm D, Weight: 0.89 grams. XRF included. Our trinitite was legally collected in 1948. The photos are of the front, back with sizing cube and description tag. The color is red, green, and black with minor metallic flakes.
Notice: All of our Trinitite has been tested as being authentic. Orders are shipped in compliance with Section 13 from part 40 of the NRC Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules and regulations and Postal Service regulations specified in 49 CFR 173.421 for activity limits of low-level radioactive materials. We ship all items per Postal Service activity limits set in Publication 52. The sale of the trinitite complies with all U.S. Federal regulations.
This material is strictly for educational and scientific purposes only. Do NOT inhale, ingest, or wear as/in jewelry.
Ships in a plastic display disc with information, tag, tag stand, Certificate of Authenticity and XRF. Acrylic base, and photo cube are not included but are readily available on Amazon.
This trinitite's color and characteristics makes it one of the most desirable specimens for great rock collections.
