Immerse yourself in the essence of Iceland's raw and dynamic landscape with our exclusive geyserite from the famous Great Geyser Haukadalur, Iceland hydrothermal region. This terrific specimen embodies the vibrant energy of geothermal wonders nestled deep in the heart of Iceland's famous Great Geysir Geothermal area, a living testament to our planet's fiery subterranean labyrinth.
The Haukadalur geothermal area in Iceland formed relatively recently, at the end of the last Ice Age. Scientific evidence suggests that it originated between 11,000 to 12,000 years ago. Geysers in this volcanic area have not erupted for over 10,000 years. Haukadalur is home to some of Iceland’s best-known geothermal features, including the geysers Strokkur and Geysir itself with more than 40 other smaller hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles.
Key Features:
- How is geyserite formed? Geyserite is found in areas with high geothermal activity. These deposits vary in size and shape, ranging from small mounds to towering structures reaching several meters in height. In addition to having a striking appearance, some geyserites with active water systems also serve important ecological roles by providing a habitat for unique microorganisms that thrive in the extreme conditions of geothermal areas.
- Historical Significance: Haukadalur is home to some of the oldest known geysers in the world, with the area's geothermal activity dating back over 10,000 years. Owning a piece of geyserite from this region is like holding a chapter of Earth's natural history.
- A Geothermal Marvel: This specimen is a fragment from a place where the ground sputters, and geysers erupt, showcasing the tremendous force of nature's geological events. It serves as a reminder of the robust processes that shape our world.
- Educational Treasure: This specimen is an excellent addition to your geological collection, that is also from an important volcanic location.
- Size of Specimen: 77mm L X 69mm W X 36mm D, Weight: 95.9 grams.
The geyserite ships with a Certificate of Authenticity, tag, tag stand, and information about the specimen. The images are of the front, back and sides. Legally collected in 1987.
The volcanic wonders from Iceland make this geyserite a great addition to any geological collection! This geyserite is a relic of Earth's mighty power and a tribute to the allure of Iceland's untamed beauty!
