Product Description

This microslide contains the remnant impact ejecta material from the 74 million year old Manson impact crater. This "Crow Creek" material contains "shocked quartz grains" which are only produced when a high-energy shock wave generated by a meteorite impact passing through quartz grains, scientifically referred to as PDF's or planar deformation features.

Scientists believe that the very special layer of sediment called "Crow Creek," which can be found today exposed in isolated patches in South Dakota and Nebraska, is impact ejecta from the Manson Impact. The Crow Creek sediment has been proven to contain the tell-tale shocked quartz and feldspar fragments blasted from the Manson asteroid impact. Because the crater itself is completely buried and there is none of the impact rocks available at the surface, the Crow Creek material is the only available signature remnant of this large impact event, above ground.

Microslide Size: 75mm L X 25mm W X 4mm D, Microslide well size: 12mm Diameter. Ships with information and Certificate of Authenticity. Plastic display stand included, photo cube is not.

If you are looking to broaden your world impact collection you don't want to miss out on an opportunity to own this rare material. After all, the Manson crater is the largest intact meteorite crater in the USA - and one that is about 30 times bigger than Meteor Crater, in Arizona.
