Product Description

Meteorites are fiery space rocks that have plunged from the sky to earth. Not all make it to earth, but when they do they arrive in a variety of shapes, colors and often unique cosmic chemistry. Some meteorites take a very long time to travel from as far away as the asteroid belt, between Mars and Jupiter, and beyond. Until they reach the ground they wander as space orphans, the "celestial nomads" of the cosmos.

On February, 1947, a large bolide etched its way across the sky with a flowing smoky trail accompanied by a deafening sound made by the impact. The sound was heard for over 200 miles and its daytime entry through the earth's atmosphere allowed many people to witness its fall. As the meteor broke apart an avalanche of pieces rained to the ground in what is called a "strewn field." It was named Sikhote-Alin, and these meteorites have thumbprints called "regmaglypts" and are unique characteristics exclusive to this Russian meteorite.

This beautiful Sikhote-Alin meteorite has been professionally wire wrapped in sterling silver and accented it with the perfect intricate bail. This authentic meteorite, suitable for men or women, ships with the story about the Sikhote-Alin meteorite, a Certificate of Authenticity, and an attractive jewelry box.

Jewelry size with sterling silver wrap and bail: 2 1/4" L X 1" W X 3/8" D, Weight: 25.9 grams; The length of the black cord chain is 19" (included), with lobster claw clasps.

Meteorites make the ideal gift for a friend, the love of your life and yourself! This meteorite jewelry works well as evening wear, using either pearl or olivine peridot earrings or sterling silver earrings.
