Product Description

Libyan Desert Glass Tektite Jewelry
This is a dynamic piece of Libyan Desert Glass wire wrapped in sterling silver, hand wire wrapped in an ornate imperial style design. It is easy to see that this yellow Libyan Desert Glass gemstone was wind polished. It has a few desert sand particles trapped on its surface, along with some deeper white bubbly cristobalite and white ballen quartz. These materials formed during an air burst (like the Tunguska event) or impact event. The crater from the catastrophe has yet to be found.

This cosmic glass is the result of a space impact event that occurred in the Libyan Desert about 26 million years ago! The sand was so scorched by the heat of the impact or air burst that it melted and ejected it high into the atmosphere to form straw yellow glass shards. As the glass coalesced and rained back down to Earth they were scattered across the impact region. It was similar to Earth's rain droplets, only it was glass - how cool is that? This glass was impressive enough to the ancient Egyptians that it is actually placed as a centerpiece in one of King Tut's breastplates.

Shipped with a Certificate of Authenticity, information about Libyan Desert Glass, and an attractive jewelry box. Gift wrap available. Your choice of matching chain length included, 18, 20, 22 inches.
