Product Description

Libyan Desert Glass Jewelry Pendant Necklace Sterling Silver
Naturally wind polished Libyan Desert Glass gemstones are beautiful and make great "cosmic jewelry." This little Libyan Desert Glass pendant has been professionally hand wire wrapped in sterling silver and makes a great gift for the person who has a smaller frame or just prefers smaller jewelry.

WHAT IS LIBYAN DESERT GLASS? This Libyan Desert Glass was gathered from the shimmering sands of the Libyan desert, in northern Africa by bedouins and explorers. About 26 million years ago a giant cosmic bolide (asteroid, meteorite or comet) impacted this region and ejected the desert sand into the air. The sand was immediately melted by the heat of the impact and as it fell to earth it cooled and condensed into these beautiful yellow-frothed glass droplets. The telltale remains of the impact were scattered across parts of the Libyan Desert. This glass is so unique that it was found in King Tut's tomb and is even so special that it was chosen to be the centerpiece in his breastplate.
