Product Description

This iron medieval crossbow bolthead is circa 14th Century, Germany. A great skull graphic, that has been penetrated by a crossbow, is portrayed with a light castle background image and an overprint description of medieval warfare and weaponry. This is a one-of-a-kind artistic ancient historical warfare wall display.

The crossbow was one of warfare's most effective and devastating tools until the middle of the 14th century when the English longbow was proven to be more effective. The effect of a crossbow bolt is shown in the accompanying picture of the skull found at the site of The Battle of Towton (1481). These bolts could easily penetrate the finest knight's armor of the day.

One of the earliest users of the crossbow were the Chinese and the Romans. They were introduced by the Normans into England in The Battle of Hastings, in 1066.

The medieval crossbow bolthead in this walnut wall display was excavated in Germany and dates from the 14th century.
