Ancient Beach Ripple Wave Marks
This is a large display specimen of ancient beach ripple marks from Kimberley, Western Australia. Collected on private land, circa 1980, this specimen is dated as Neoproterozoic and is from an old estate collection.

As the sea retreated and the wave marks dried they turned to stone through a process called lithification. This preserved the shape of the ripple marks. As the sea retreated the marks bear testimony to the wave action that occurred in the Neoproterozoic.

Ancient beach ripple wave marks makes for a very interesting geological display specimen. The specimen size is: 9" H X 8 1/2" W X 7/8" D, Weight: 3.5 lb. Wave crests measure 35mm -40mm apart. This specimen has 6 ripple marks. This is not a reproduction. Quartzite, sandstone.
