Allende Dragon Meteorite Jewelry Pendant Necklace with Great CAI

This meteorite jewelry has astronomical symbolic meaning. The beautiful white Calcium Aluminum Inclusion in the meteorite is shaped similarly to the Milky Way. In this jewelry we took the Dragon pendant, representing the constellation Draco, and trimmed the meteorite to make it look like the Dragon is clasping the great vault of the sky with the Milky Way being naturally draped across it, in white.

In ancient mythology the Milky Way was thought to be the dividing line or the great portal that connects the heavens and the earth. This partitioning of space is a primitive concept with mythologies from many cultures creating stories about the constellations and their interactions with each other. The dragon is chasing the Milky Way, to devour it, and is part of myth and legend.

About the Meteorite: The Allende meteorite fell to Earth at 1:05 AM on February 8, 1969. Like many meteorites, Allende entered the atmosphere and friction heated it up until it exploded and rained meteorite fragments over an area of about 60 square miles. They were found near the small town of Pueblito de Allende, Mexico, hence the name.

Allende meteorite is NOT known for its beauty but for its scientific value and cosmic significance. It has many tiny natural diamonds which were made in interstellar space. One of the interesting things about Allende is that it's very rich in diamonds and these diamonds are very small, far too small to see - only one thousand atoms or so across. These diamonds are extremely precious because they contain a lot of unusual characteristics which lead us to think that they may have formed long before the meteorite itself did. In fact, they may have formed around an ancient star which, at the end of its life, gave out material that eventually became incorporated into our solar system. So these tiny grains can tell us all sorts of things about the entire history of our galaxy. It seems unimaginable to hold something that ancient.

Chemistry: The large white calcium aluminum inclusion is composed of primarily oxides and silicates of calcium, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium. A wide diversity of CAI types exist in meteorites and they can differ in composition, mineralogy, structure and size. Many phases have been identified in CAIs over the years, but most are either rare accessories or secondary minerals that clearly replace primary ones. They are uniformly very old and for that reason are usually taken to define the age of the solar system at about 4.56720.0006 Ga. Scientists believe that there is a presolar origin for the CAIs, which were disbursed into our solar system's infant presolar chemistry. Scientific evidence indicates that portions of Allende's cosmochemistry probably came from the collapse of a nearby supernova.
