The crater field for Campo de Cielo meteorites covers a large area and is located in Argentina. The craters' age is estimated to be about 5,000 years old. Craters containing iron masses were heard of 1576 but were already well known to the aboriginal inhabitants of the area. The Spanish translation of Campo del Cielo means "Field of the Sky," based on Indian legends that fireballs had fallen from the sky. This meteorite has been legally collected and is a great collector's piece. It is an iron meteorite.
