This specimen came from the Pacific Ocean floor. Manganese nodules are the most widespread undersea mineral resource, composed mainly of manganese minerals and are found in lumps of up to about 10 centimeters in diameter. They contain lesser valuable amounts of cobalt, copper, nickel, platinum, and other metals.
Location: The manganese nodule belt within the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone, northeast equatorial Pacific.
