Gibeon Leucite Meteorite Pendant The Gibeon Meteorite strewn field fell in Namibia, Africa. This iron meteorite is a blend of iron (95%)and nickel, which is a mixture almost completely unique to meteorites. Meteorites are believed to be small fragments of asteroids, broken off during the constant collisions that occur between asteroidal objects over time. Certain large fragments have impacted the Earth, Moon, and other solar system bodies with enough energy to create impact craters. Meteorites are about seven hundred million years older than the oldest rocks on Earth, making them, in our brief lifetimes, seemingly "eternal."
